How to Appoint a DPO (Data Protection Officer) Singapore

Appointment of a Data Protection Officer (DPO) is compulsory for all organizations, including private limited companies. It should not take you longer than 10 minutes to complete the appointment.

How to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO)

Appointment of a DPO is done through the Bizfile website on ACRA. The appointment can only be done by an officer of the company (Director / Company Secretary), or a Corporate Service Provider (CSP).

Time required: Up to 10 minutes.

1. Login to Bizfile

Login with CorpPass on Bizfile. Select the relevant entity you are appointing a DPO for.

2. Select eServices

At the top bar of Bizfile, select eServices.

3. Select Others

On the left hand side bar, scroll all the way down, and select the last item, Others.

4. Select Register/Update DPO

Slightly scroll down, and look for the subsection named General, and look for item 6, Register/Update Data Protection Officer(s). Select it, and then, enter the UEN of your entity.

5. Enter officer details

Provide the company’s information, as well as information on your Data Protection Officer (DPO). Make the necessary declaration and submit to ACRA. Please note that these information such as name, contact number, and email address will be public accessible.

6. Confirm and Submit

Confirm the details of the appointment, and make the filing to ACRA. Remember to save the transaction summary if necessary for record purposes.
