SSIC 64202 for holding companies
The SSIC 2025 code for a company that owns a group of non-financial subsidiaries. See when it fits, when 70101, 64201 or 64300 describes your company better, and SingStat’s full definition.
Short answer
Is 64202 the right code for your holding company?
Use SSIC 64202 for a holding company whose main activity is owning controlling stakes in a group of subsidiaries that are not banks, insurers or other financial firms. SingStat describes these companies as owning the group rather than running it: they have little or no staff and little or no revenue from selling goods or services.
Two other codes are often a better fit. If the holding company also manages its subsidiaries, by setting group strategy or providing finance, HR or marketing services to them, SingStat classifies it under 70101. A company that holds investments for you or your family, rather than a group of subsidiaries, falls under 64300, where SingStat lists personal investment holding companies.
Use 64202 if
- The company owns controlling stakes in one or more subsidiaries, in Singapore or overseas
- The subsidiaries run non-financial businesses, such as trading, technology, property or F&B
- The holding company has few or no employees and little or no revenue of its own
- It raises or borrows funds for the group and passes them on to group companies
Look at another code if
- The subsidiaries are banks, insurers or other financial firms
- The holding company manages its subsidiaries or provides services to them
- It holds personal or family investments rather than subsidiaries
- It invests its own money in shares or start-ups, or owns property to rent out

SSIC 64202 FAQs
What founders ask us about this code. If your question is not here, ask us directly.
Is 64202 the code for an investment holding company?
It depends on what the company holds. If it owns controlling stakes in subsidiaries that run businesses, 64202 fits, or 64201 for a financial group. If it holds a portfolio of shares, funds or other investments for you or your family, SingStat lists personal investment holding companies under 64300. A company that invests its own money in start-ups, as an angel investor would, falls under 64999.
My holding company also manages its subsidiaries. Is 64202 still right?
SingStat says 64202 companies generally do not administer or manage the businesses they own. If yours sets strategy, makes decisions for the group or provides services such as finance, HR or marketing to its subsidiaries, 70101 is the better fit. SingStat lists “holding company providing centralised administrative functions to related or subsidiary companies” under 70101.
Can a holding company be the shareholder of my Singapore company?
Yes. A company, whether Singapore or foreign, can own shares in a Singapore private company. In a typical holding structure, the holding company owns the shares and the operating company runs the business.
What is the difference between 64201 and 64202?
Both are for companies whose main activity is owning a group. 64201 is for groups of financial or insurance firms, such as a bank holding company. 64202 is for every other kind of group.
Can I change my SSIC code later?
Yes. You can update your company’s registered business activities with ACRA on BizFile+ whenever your business changes. If you have a company secretary, they normally make the filing for you.
