ACRA will be transitioning to the Contact Address Regime by the end of 2024. From 2025 onwards, this new structure will take place. The Contact Address Regime benefits stakeholders by protecting the privacy of residential addresses filed with the Registrar.
Current Address Structure in 2024
As of 2024, there are 2 types of addresses that stakeholders (officers of the company [Eg: Directors, Company Secretaries, Shareholders]) in ACRA can file / show.
The first, being the default, would be the residential address of the stakeholder.
The second, would be called an Alternate Address. This is an optional address that stakeholders can file to ACRA, and before 23rd August 2024, ACRA charged a $40 filing fee to file an Alternate Address.
If no alternate address is provided, the residential address will be publicly shown on the company’s business profile.
What is the Contact Address Regime?
By the end of 2024, Contact Address Regime will replace the existing Alternate Address regime.
It is mandatory for stakeholders to provide a contact address. By default, the stakeholder’s residential address will automatically be submitted as a contact address.
If an alternate address was previously already filed, then the alternate address will be automatically submitted as a contact address.
Therefore, for stakeholders who are concerned with their residential address being publicly shown on the company’s business profile, they are strongly suggested to file and submit a contact address.
If stakeholders prefer to use their residential address as contact address, and if they do not already have an alternate address – no action is necessary as their residential address will automatically be used as their contact address.
Waiver of filing fee for providing Contact Address
From 23rd August 2024, ACRA will waive the filing fee of $40 when submitting the filing of providing Contact Address on ACRA.
This waiver will end upon commencement of the Contact Address regime, end 2024 / start 2025.
Who can file the update of Contact Address
• For stakeholders who are position holders (eg Directors / Company Secretaries), they will be able to submit the filing themselves on ACRA, and ACRA will not charge a filing fee.
This can be done through logging in through CorpPass on Bizfile.
• For stakeholders who are solely shareholders, they will require their company secretary to assist them with the filing, or to engage a Corporate Service Provider (of which Leftright Corporate is one). Although ACRA do not charge any fees for the filing, Corporate Service Providers may charge a service fee for assistance.
