If you run a business registered in Singapore, there's one quick but important thing to check right now: your SSIC code on Bizfile may have just changed.
Effective 9 May 2026, ACRA has migrated all registered entities from the old SSIC 2020 classification to the updated SSIC 2025 standard. The migration was done automatically — but that doesn't mean you can just sit back. Here's what you need to know.
What is an SSIC Code?
The Singapore Standard Industrial Classification (SSIC) code is a 5-digit code that describes your company's primary business activity. It appears on your Bizfile profile and is used across government agencies — from ACRA to IRAS to MOM — for regulatory, statistical, and licensing purposes.
Getting it right matters. An inaccurate SSIC code can affect grant eligibility, licensing requirements, and even tax assessments.
What Changed with SSIC 2025?
SSIC is updated every five years by the Singapore Department of Statistics (SingStat), in alignment with the United Nations' international standard (ISIC). The 2025 edition is the most substantial revision yet:
- 1,500+ codes revised — some merged, some split into more specific sub-categories
- New codes added for emerging sectors including AI, digital platforms, renewable energy, and climate technology
- Obsolete codes removed — categories with few registered businesses have been consolidated
- Now 22 sections (up from 21), aligned with ISIC Revision 5
One notable structural change: the old Section J "Information and Communications" has been split into two distinct sections:
New Section J — Publishing, Broadcasting, and Content Production & Distribution Activities
New Section K — Telecommunications, Computer Programming, Consultancy, Computing Infrastructure & Other Information Service Activities
If your business operates in the tech or media space, your code has very likely been reassigned — even if your actual business activity hasn't changed.
What You Need to Do
ACRA has automatically mapped every entity's old SSIC 2020 code to the nearest SSIC 2025 equivalent. If your code was affected, you should have received a notification on 9 May 2026.
But don't just rely on the auto-assignment. Here's your action checklist:
- Log in to Bizfile at bizfile.gov.sg and check your entity's current SSIC code.
- Verify it accurately describes your business activity. If your auto-assigned code is off, you are responsible for correcting it.
- File an update via Bizfile if the code doesn't match. This is especially important for businesses in tech, media, green economy, and professional services.

Bottom Line
The SSIC 2025 transition is mostly painless — ACRA has done the heavy lifting. But a wrong code can quietly cause problems down the line: from grant applications to regulatory filings. Take five minutes, check your Bizfile profile, and update if needed.
